The barren landscape, scorching heat, and the stark blue sky have changed their course. The sky is still the same, but the air is chilly. The barren landscape is still the same, but patches of snow have covered the barren mountains given it a unique color. The river still flows but partly or completely frozen.
Crowds have disappeared and replacing the murmurs of the crowd is the silence of cold crisp air and chants of monks in the monastery. The fluttering flags still add colors but to the snow-capped mountains in the distance. Streets look deserted, locals are back to their slow-paced life cooking, eating together, counting the days for the winter to get over and their large hearts are always open to welcome you.
Summer is definitely the choicest month for many planning a trip to Ladakh. But winter has its own charm where you don’t have to share this piece of paradise with anyone else. It is just for you.
Sharing photographs from our recent trip.
