It was in the month of September when we went to Chandigarh. Dotted with garden, temples, museums and architectural wonders, the beautiful city of Chandigarh hails to be one of the cleanest and a well-planned city of India, divided into various sectors.
We had booked our stay at Ginger Hotel which was quite close to one of the biggest mall of Chandigarh and conveniently located near the airport. Knowing that we would get only a couple of days in the city, we decided on our itinerary well ahead.
We have recapped top things to do in Chandigarh.
Visit Rock Garden:
A visit to Chandigarh is incomplete without a visit to the famous Rock Gardens. The garden is spread across a whopping forty acres and what distinguishes this garden from others is the fact that it is completely made constructed out of recycled waste. All the sculptures have been created out of industrial and domestic waste like ceramic pots, tiles, bottles etc.
The garden has numerous waterfalls, which are interlinked. A walk along the water body brings you across numerous sculptures, which are beautiful. Sometimes it is hard to imagine how creative can someone be to create a thing of beauty out of sheer waste. It is unique in a true sense. The garden has winding paths and each door leads to new creations, there were pots stacked up, artificial waterfalls, dancing dolls and so many other amazing sculptures.
Soak in the beauty of Sukhna Lake:
Sukhna is a man-made lake in the heart of the city. We visited the lake in the morning. It felt as if this lake was an integral part of the people of the Chandigarh. There were people who were taking a leisurely stroll, the fitness freaks were busy jogging. There were artists who were trying to capture the beauty of the lake onto the canvas. There was a raft of ducks swimming from one end of the bank to the other. As we sat down to admire the beauty of the lake, we could hear the echo of the ducks quacking. The water in the lake was calm. Alas, we did not have the time to go on a boat ride.
Rose Garden:
The city of Chandigarh has numerous gardens and the most famous of them is the Rose Garden. The garden is named after the former President of India, Dr. Zakir Hussain. The garden is spread over an area of 30 acres and has numerous varieties of roses and trees. This garden holds the record of being Asia’s largest garden. More than 1700 plants and tree with medicinal properties are planted. It’s a perfect place to hang out picnicking with family and friends.
Shop till you Drop:
Shopping is one thing we cannot miss even when we are on vacation. Elante mall is one of the biggest malls in Chandigarh with almost every brand. Shopping at Sector -17 is also quite famous and if you have talent in haggling, hit the local markets of Chandigarh.
Eat your Heart Out:
Be it eating in a posh restaurant or street-side hawkers. Chandigarh will not disappoint you on the varieties of food it has to offer.
Short Getaways:
It is a perfect base location to some stunning locales for a quick escape from the humdrum of city life for places like Amritsar, Delhi, Kullu, Koshali, Manali and Shimla.

Chandigarh is my love amongst the cities in India. It feels like you are roaming around in a big garden. And rock garden from your post brought back memories from my childhood when I visited here. But we couldn’t see rose garden at that time in full bloom
