Bollywood movies have inspired travel plans of multiple generations for a long time now. Be it Switzerland which was the top most honeymoon destination of Indians in the 90s to Vegas which is the ultimate party destination. All these locations have been inspired by some Bollywood movie.
Bollywood over a period of last two to three decades has boosted a lot of tourism. From snow-capped mountains of Switzerland to the hot and arid deserts of Egypt, the whitewashed villages of Santorini to an epic road trip to Spain all have been part of the Bollywood travel saga.
The celluloid journey always teleports us to exotic locations within a fraction of seconds. The changing landscape is inspiring enough to plan your vacation. Are you too a day dreamer who tends to live through the song sequence of a Bollywood movie shot in some exotic locale. Have you ever dreamt of embarking on a Euro trip in search of your Raj after watching DDLJ? ….I have done that …sigh!!!
Here I pen down my favorite list of places which have been immortalized by Bollywood movies and are high on my bucket list.
10 . Egypt
The stark contrast of the vastness of the desert to the romance between Katrina Kaif and Akshay Kumar has surely risen the temperature high, nothing can be as dramatic and romantic at the same time. Fascinating stories about mummies to the pyramids, Egypt is definitely on our radar.

The undying love and sizzling chemistry amidst rows of colorful manicured Tulips is quite picturesque and bound to remain etched in the memory. The beautiful song takes me to the spectacular tulip gardens of The Netherlands. Come March and the fields turn from sandy patches to green sprouts in spring. Keukenhof gardens are one of the largest and most popular one with rows of flowers, windmills adding to the beauty. Anyone else dreaming about holding hands and strolling apart from me 😉

” Ja Simran …Ji le Apni Zindagi ” stills echoes in my mind, the DDLJ tune, the yellow mustard fields, the amazing food and the Punjabi culture. I had always wanted to take a pic in one of the mustard fields of Punjab. Not just the food of Dhabas (road side restaurants on highways) and the tempting lassi makes me feel like planning another trip but also the Wagah Border and glistening golden temple of Amritsar makes my feet itchy. Time to revisit again 😉
7. Thailand :
The land of smiles the place where I have left my heart. I had never seen water so blue, the sky so clear, sand so white food so tasty and people so sweet until I visited Thailand. I had always wanted to visit Thailand and am happy that we visited the same Phra nang Beach where Kaho Na Pyaar hai was shot. And believe me, its a place you can fall in love head over heel 😉 Stunning views which are captivating enough to compel you to stay there forever.

If you want solace then this paradise is waiting for you. My Pinterest is flooded with pictures of Ladakh. The best way to enjoy Ladakh is on a road trip and that too on a bike. The beauty is unmatched and untouched and every corner is insanely spectacular that can’t be described in words.
5 . Italy :
This beautiful countryside village was frankly never in my list until “Khuda Jane ke ” song from movie Bachna Ae Haseeno happened. Alleys of white washed village dotted at the shores of azure waters. The flower laden quaint alleys and cobbled streets looks straight out of some fairy tale. The song rekindles my love affair with Italy.

4. Mykonos & Santorini, Greece
I have been dying to visit this place for so long now. After some failed plans, not sure when will Destiny conspire to make us visit the islands of Greece.
Sunset of Oio or the Mykonos famous windmills, whitewashed village or the red sand beaches. Greece is all about sea, sky and much more.

The hidden treasure, raw and untamed landscapes, and stunning Pammukale. This place is a unique combination of ancient and modern. This country has a perfect amalgamation of the Asian and European cultures which leads to the uniqueness of this city may it be in cuisines, architecture or traditions. There is something magical about Turkey and hope we get to see this place soon.

Rolling meadows, swiss alps, swiss chocolates and scenic beauty all around. Switzerland is hands down the most romantic place on earth. Thanks to the Yash raj films and all the romantic movies shot here from Chandini to Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge and so many others. Love oozes from every corner in this place. If there is one place if given a choice to settle down, that would definitely be Switzerland for me 🙂

An epic road trip to across New Zealand. Its been almost fourteen years since the movie was released but the songs and the locations are still fresh in my mind. Hrithik Roshan driving through the mountains and the melodious voice of Lucky Ali. Mesmerizing and beautiful journey that amazes you and the excitement and thrill never ceases i.e New Zealand.
I have been planning a trip to this majestic land for years now. Hopefully next year, we will be also part of this postcard if everything goes as planned (Finger crossed).
