The lake is quite an underrated destination among international tourists but is quite popular among locals in the Bavaria region. It is one of the deepest alpine lakes in Germany. Walchensee: Is Bayern Ticket valid?
Bayern Ticket works. You can board the train to Kochel or Garmisch from Munich and take the bus 9608 that takes you to the beautiful lake without paying a penny.

Walchensee from Munich – How to get there?
Walchensee from Munich – By Public Transportation:
There are trains from Munich to Kochel on a regional DB train that takes approximately an hour. Bus No. 9608 connects Kochel am see ( Train Station) and Walchensee (various stops along the lake). On Sundays, the frequency is less compared to other days. Make sure you keep a track of bus timings.
Alternatively, there are also trains from Munich to Garmish Partenkirchen. From here you can board the bus ( No. 9608) that also takes you to Walchensee via Gerold See. The frequency of trains from Munich to Garmish is better as compared to Kochel.

A95 towards Kochel via Schlehdorf from Munich.
