Best Winter Destinations of Midwest

The Midwest region is relatively less explored, compared to the East Coast and West Coast regions.

Here we give a low down of five places in the Midwest region where you can have some fun and spend some quality time.

Park City, Utah 

Located just 35 minutes from Salt City Airport, Park City is a famous ski destination in the Midwest region. Park City Mountain Resort and Deer Valley Resort are two of the world-class ski resorts in the area. Though the city is famous for skiing, there are many other activities to enjoy, such as snowmobiling, snowshoeing, snow tubing, dog sledding, and hot air ballooning. If you’ve had enough of the slopes then you can head to various events, film festivals, and concerts that are organized in the city. Apart from this, don’t forget to shop till you drop and eat your way through the city.

Saint George, Utah

The city of Saint George, Utah is the cultural and commercial hub of Southern Utah thanks to its many concerts, art festivals, and museums. It is also a popular tourist destination because of its proximity to Zion National Park, Bryce Canyon National Park, Lake Powell, and Grand Canyon National Park. Moreover, the city has many golf courses and other outdoor activities for everyone. If you are in the mood for a round of golf then head to any one of the six golf courses in the city.  Go out for a jog on the various trails that the city has to offer; it is one of the best ways to explore the city.

Peoria, Illinois

Founded in 1691 by the French explorer Henri de Tonti, Peoria is the oldest European settlement in the state of Illinois. Peoria is the largest city situated on the banks of the River Illinois and the Riverfront Museum is one of the popular tourist attractions. The city is also a hub of art and culture.  With a couple of wineries, it’s a perfect place to sit back, relax and enjoy some quality wine.

Indianapolis, Indiana

Indianapolis is the capital of the US state of Indiana and is the second largest city in the Midwest region. The city is famous for hosting the Indianapolis 500 automobile race, so if you are in Indianapolis a visit to the Indianapolis Motor Speedway and Hall of Fame Museum is a must.  You can also check out the Children’s Museum, the Indianapolis Museum of Art, and the Indiana State Museum. Another museum worth a visit is the War Museum if you are interested in military history. With great options for food, the city is a foodie’s delight.

Salt Lake City, Utah

Salt Lake City is a major ski destination in the Midwest region and it also goes by the name Ski City. The major resorts in Salt Lake City where you can ski are Alta, Brighton, Snowbird, and Solitude to name a few.  The city has many art galleries and museums that are well worth a visit. One can also visit the Great Salt Lake and Antelope Island, which are known to have some interesting wildlife.

So ditch the mainstream touristy destinations and head to one of these places this winter for a perfect weekend getaway.
