Day Trip to Wallberg from Munich

Looking for one of the best views of the Tegernsee Lake in Germany. Wallberg is your answer! Just 75 km away from Munich, it is the perfect destination for a day trip. Wallberg is a mountain in the Bavarian Alps and is quite famous for hiking and mountain biking. The summit of Wallberg is at an altitude of 1722 meters. 1. HOW TO REACH WALLBERG FROM MUNICH 

1.1 By public transport to Wallbergbahn from Munich

From Munich ( Munich Central Station (Hauptbahnhof)) you have to take a train to Tegernsee and then bus number 9556 takes you to Wallbergbahn. 

Opt for Bayern Ticket as it’s the cheapest option if you are travelling in a group or as a couple.

The last bus from Wallbergbahn is at 17:17!!!

( Tip: Make sure you crosscheck the timings at the bus stop.)

1.2 By car to Wallbergbahn

You can also drive to the Wallbergbahn from Munich. Drive towards Holzkirchen on Autobahn 8 and then from Holzkirchen take the exit towards Route 318. 

Parking: There is a parking lot right next to the cable car station.

2. HOW TO GET UP TO THE SUMMIT

2.1 By cable car

This is the easiest option. The cable car takes you up to the top in just 10 minutes.

Prices –

You can buy the tickets from the station near the parking lot or from the machine located near the restaurant at the top.

Tickets for adults

Ride up & down: 21 €
Ride up or down: 11.50 €

Tickets for children

Ride up & down: 10.50 €
Ride up or down: 6.50 €

Family ticket

For both parents and all kids under 15
Ride up & down: 51 €
Ride up or down: 29 €

  • 8:45 am – 17:00 pm
  • The last cable car that goes up to the peak at 16:30!!!

2.2 Hiking

Sommerweg is the shorter route. It takes around 3 hours to ascent and 2 hours to descent. Make sure you are stocked up on food, water and don’t forget your hiking/trekking poles. Wear comfortable shoes.

Once you reach the top, don’t forget to walk a bit further to reach the summit.  You have to hike from the Panoramarestaurant (1620m) to  Wallberg summit (1722m). It takes around 20-30 minutes. 

The hike is well-marked.

3. THINGS TO DO IN WALLBERG, GERMANY

Enjoy the views

You can walk to the church or the summit or just order a drink/ coffee at Panoramarestaurant and enjoy the views.

Enjoy one of the longest natural toboggan runs in Bavaria, which is more than 6.5 kilometers long.

If you are visiting during summer, enjoy your time swimming, sunbathing, or chilling at the shore of the beautiful Tegernsee lake. A boat trip or exploring on a SUP might interest you.
