If you are not living in stone age then you might already be aware of the latest fixation. The craze that has swept the young and the older generation alike. The obsession that is not going to die soon. The whim that is going to stay for a while. Yes, we are talking about none other than the crazy love for selfies. No doubt with all the fascination not only among the millennials but also the likes of Narendra Modi and Barack Obama the trend is going to stay for a while.
The Internet these days are flooded with selfie posts — selfies with the new Rs. 2000 note, with a celebrity, bunch of buddies or with a historic monument as the backdrop. All the duck faces and pouting selfies do need a mention too.
But getting a perfect selfie is still an art to master for many. There are many who still freak out while capturing selfie or just can’t get it right. If you too are guilty as charged for capturing bad selfies then fear not as we are here to rescue you.
In this article, we share few tips and tricks to rock that perfect selfie to post on your various social media accounts.
– Perfect Lighting –
The most important key to capturing gorgeous selfie is perfect lighting. Light plays a vital role in the way the picture turns out. Not just it instantly brightens up the picture but also camouflages any wrinkles or spots in your skin. Below are quick tips that you need to remember while clicking selfies.
Tip 1: Always try capturing the selfie facing a source of light or near a window where you can get ample natural light. You can try moving the phone or change your position and decide what works for you.
Tip 2: Never capture a selfie with your back to the sun while you are outdoors. The pictures will look like silhouettes or will come out dark.
– Play With Angles –
Taking a picture at the correct angle is another trick. Try capturing selfies with your camera above your head level or align the camera at the level of your eye. Never take selfies with the camera below your shoulder height.
One more interesting thing to remember is that to experiment with your poses. For some of us, one side is more attractive or better than the other side, so if your left profile is better then click the selfie of your left profile or vice versa.
– Choose a Good Background –
Choosing the right background can change how your selfie comes out. It’s good to choose your background wisely while clicking selfies. Monuments, beautiful buildings or natural landscape or seascape are few great examples of good background for selfies.
– Apps for Editing –
It is always good to do a bit of retouch before you post your selfie on any social media sites. We share our top three apps that we are in love with. These amazing apps can transform your pictures in a jiffy.
Snapseed
Snapseed is a great editing tool. It can a bit overwhelming in the beginning, with so many features but once you have your hands on it, it is a cake walk. You can adjust the exposure, contrast, saturation, clarity, add text and do a lot of other cool stuff.
VSCOcam
One of my favorite app. It gives you enough room to experiment and play around with various filters and turn your pictures into a masterpiece.
Pitu
I love this app not just for the filters but for the makeup option. You don’t have to waste your time doing makeup, it takes care of everything…..makeup, contour, correction or highlighting.
– Amazing Camera Phone –
Last but the most important element is a good camera phone.
No matter how good the lighting is or the way you look. The front camera of the phone plays a vital role while capturing a selfie. There are many camera phones that have been launched in the market that claims to be the selfie camera phones, one among them that caught our eye is the new Vivo V5 Selfie Camera. The camera comes with a 20-megapixel front camera ( higher than or close to few digicams in the market). It also has a Sony IMX376 sensor with f/2.0 aperture, a fixed focus lens, and a selfie flash that helps in taking some gorgeous selfies or say “Moonlight” selfie. The selfie flash is basically a white light that acts as a source of light and illuminates the face, unlike the regular flash which makes the background completely dark.
Face Beauty 6.0 Mode is another highlight of the phone and makes your face looks thinner and reduces blemishes. So, if you have been waiting to buy a perfect selfie camera phone – Vivo V5 is awesome.
Hope all the tips & tricks that we’ve shared helps you in taking some splendid Selfies.

Very nice tips & tricks. I am bummer at taking good selfie.
Thanks for sharing this great tips!
Fun post. I know I need all the help I can get with a selfie, normally I’m a fan of standing behind the camera! Happy Travels
I can’t say that I have done many selfies (to publish) on my travel, but it comes down to common sense. Well done on picking a unique theme and present it in a way for others to learn! Maybe I will start doing a selfie more often than not.
I’ve only recently found these make-up apps and find them both useful and sort of hilarious. Definitely thinks I could never do myself are humorous, but it’s also great to be able to just tweak something ever so slightly that I missed in the beginning. Oh the selfie madness!!
Thanks for the wonderful tips. This phone has so much to offer with amazing features.
Great phone for people who love taking pictures and selfies.
Thanks for the useful tips. I have been very poor when it comes to taking selfies. Now I will practice with your tips in mind
I like to take selfies with a GoPro and have my head facing away from the camera and looking into the distance. I never like looking at the camera…unless taking with bunch of friends/wifey.
There are already a lot of apps that can easily transform your photos and make them look professional or great! But thanks for the tips!
Very good tips! Especially for people who travel alone, selfie is sometimes the only way to get pictures for your blog. Many times it even takes several tries to get one that I like, trying different ankles. I like selfies where you can’t actually tell that it was taken by the person him or herself.
The first two images are hilarious. Grabs attention for sure. I have always been conscious about taking selfies. A good phone is a must. After i started using my Samsung galaxy note, the picture quality is great that I am happy to take selfies more often now. Even better is the fact that i don’t need to click. All i say is cheese and the photo is taken 🙂
This is such a helpful post. In today’s selfie age we definitely need to know the tips and tricks.
Haha and I love the way you have elaborated this with amazing pictures.
Thank you so much.
I did enjoy this post very much! I think taking selfies is fun, but I never actually get around editing them, so they are not so professional. Maybe I will get some apps, so I can do it directly on my phone before posting!
It’s true about lighting and angles. I agree with that. Selfies come in handy especially if you’re traveling alone or no other people around you to take your picture LOL
I love these tips and tricks… I use snapseed and i love it as Vsco… This post is so useful!! Thanks for sharing with us 🙂
Good one Swati 🙂 I will take some of these tips myself… so so pathetic at it. 🙂
Well, playing with angles is a key but having a good camera is definitely the best thing to have. Well, of course, I also consider my mood in doing a selfie. hahaha you never know!
I’m not much of a selfie person but my fiancee loves taking selfies or will have me take the photos. I think the best tip out of all of them is finding good lighting since you don’t always have a diffuser or something that creates a soft natural light. Still, these are great tips in general, whether you’re taking a selfie or not.
wow! IT’s really excited topic. I concerned about the selfie when I am traveling. But it’s useful . Thanks 🙂
Great tips and I am really in need of them!! We always travel as a family but recently I have accompanied my husband on business trips and have explored while he was working. This left me without anyone to help photograph! I really wanted a few ‘I was there…’ photos so I tried the selfie thing and realized there is clearly a LOT more to it than meets the eye! LOL! Some of my photos were just awful….not two ways about it. My face looked fat…not pretty.
I need this advice! 🙂 Thank you.
thank you for all the amazing advice i sure look forward to applying them while taking my next selfie 😀
wow,,look at your selfie..its just perfect…thanks for sharing…
