Tearing the cotton candy clouds, as our plane geared up for landing, I was still looking for the sight of the ocean from the sky in alacrity. The pictures of Krabi were one of the many reasons for our Thailand trip. And before we could realize we had landed at one of the smallest airports in the world, surrounded by hills and lush green fields. Our cabbie was already there to drive us to the hotel which was at Ao Nang, 40 minutes by car. As we drove down to the Ao Nang town, we were accompanied by undulating mountain range against the azure sky which looked both calm and majestic, swaying palm trees on either side and hardly anyone on the road. Ao Nang is a small town tucked at the shores of the Andaman Sea with numerous resorts, shops, and restaurants dotted on one side and blue placid sea on the other. If you are planning for a trip to Krabi in the near future then keep on reading this article to know about the top things to do in Krabi.
We stayed at one of the beautiful property of Accor hotels – Deevana Krabi Resort. (You can also check other beautiful properties here) The location of the hotel was just perfect to explore the town. Although it was not a beachside resort the location was perfect to explore the quaint town.
Krabi is famous for its gorgeous beaches, towering limestone cliffs amidst turquoise lagoon, laid back lifestyle and amiable locals. Here are some of the top things to do in Krabi.
We give you a low down of what should make to your itinerary on your visit to Krabi.
Explore the unexplored :
Rent a bike and explore the quaint little town. Rugged mountains, steamy tropical forest accompanied us throughout as we trod our way through the lanes of the small coastal town of Krabi. People warm and affable ready to help you find your way. So, put down the map and get happily lost in the oblivion.
Adventure sojourn :
The ultimate destination for adventure junkies, Krabi offers daily snorkeling, diving, and fishing trips to various islands. Not only that AV rides, kayaking, mountain climbing, and white water river rafting to name a few. Every lane has shops offering the best deals for day trips and haggling is a must as you can get a striking deal for the same package tours available online.
Relish Every Bite :
Devour on yummy pan Cakes, dig into the tempting Seafood or tantalize your taste buds with famous Thai local cuisines. There are plenty of restaurants and cafes selling from western, Thai to Indian food. Don’t shy away and experiment with the local food. We would highly recommend you to try the fresh seafood being served in the many restaurants.
Island Hopping :
Hopping from one breathtaking island to another, counting the numerous shades of the sea or chasing the colourful school of fishes. If this is what excites you, then you are in the right place.
We did use our bargaining skills and got a good deal for both Phi Phi Island Tour (Speed Boat) and Four Island Tour (Long Tail Boat), which included pick up from the hotel, lunch on the shores, fruits, water, snorkeling mask, and life jacket.
Shopping :
Though it’s not a shoppers paradise-like Bangkok but you can find numerous shops selling beachwear to maxi dresses, photo magnets to trinkets at a very affordable price. Though the initial prices are inflated but don’t forget to haggle before buying. You can buy some cool souvenirs for friends and relatives back home. The night market of Krabi is also quite famous.
Spa :
You can find plenty of options from foot, neck, back to full body massage. After a tiring day trip, nothing can beat a relaxing massage or a spa session for a tour weary soul.
Night Life :
Krabi is not known for its nightlife or for being a party island. However there are numerous pubs, bars and restaurants in Krabi, some of which even have live music. Do not shy away from having a pint or trying the local beer and enjoying the live music.
Places to Visit :
Here are some of the places that you ought to visit while you are in Krabi :
- Phi Phi Island Tour
- Four Island Tour (Chicken Island, Koh Tup, Koh Mawr and Poda)
- PhangNga Caves
- Night Market
- Tiger Cave Temple
- Hot Spring

Facts :

It is a perfect base to explore nearby destinations like Koh Phi Phi, Koh Lanta, Than Bok Khorani National Park, Khao Phanom Bencha National Park, Mu Koh Hong, and many more.

Krabi is where we plan to halt for a quick 4 days away from Mumbai. Can you recommend a nice place to stay. Not the Star/Hotel kinds but something more ethnic perhaps? Thanks a ton
