From the stunning beaches to the turquoise blue waters, from luxurious resorts to affordable stays, from affable locals to enticing food. Bali is one perfect destination that ticks all the checkboxes. In the month of November, we visited Bali for 10 days. Our initial plan was to fit in Gilli T for a few days but later we had to drop the plan as Bali had so much to offer that even a ten days trip looked way too short. We started our trip with a couple of days in Sanur which is famous for its pristine white beaches, water sports activities and is also an ideal base to escape to nearby islands for day trips. On our trip, we tried to drink in as many views and sunsets we could, devoured some awesome Indonesian food, polished our bargaining skills at flea markets, wandered aimlessly on the streets of Bali, followed by some dozens of dips in the infinity pools. One of the toughest parts while planning our trip to Bali was finding the perfect retreat. As you might know, Bali has no dearth of impeccable hotels and we had a pretty tough time scouting the best out of all. One such beautiful property we zeroed on was Maya Sanur Resort and Spa, where we stayed for a couple of days before heading to their sister property at Ubud. In this post we give you a detailed review of Maya Sanur Resort Spa Bali.
Maya Resort & Spa at Sanur is a beachfront resort and one of the new additions to the luxury resorts in Bali.
Review of Maya Sanur Resort Spa Bali
• • • Welcome • • •
We had an afternoon flight from KL and were at Bali around 2 PM. As soon as our immigration was done, we booked a pre-paid airport taxi and headed straight to the resort. Upon arriving at the resort, we were greeted by the potter who ushered us to the reception area, which was on the first floor, for the check-in process. A cold towel and welcome drink were served as the staff got us checked-in.
The check-in was a breeze and soon we were escorted to our room which was on the second floor. The hotel staff who escorted us to the room was also kind enough to give us a basic room tour and tell us everything about the property, timings of restaurants, important extension numbers to dial.
Coming to the interiors — The resort is beautifully landscaped. The greens, blues, and whites are the prominent colors that paint the resort. Walls blanketed with creepers, fluid spaces, playful décor, wooden furniture and hints of colors give it a modern yet simplistic look.
• • • Rooms • • •
We were put up in the Deluxe Lagoon View Room. Contemporary yet minimalist was our first impression as we stepped into our room. The beautifully appointed room comes with 58 square meter of living space inclusive of a decent-sized patio overlooking the lagoon. Floor to ceiling sliding glass doors leads straight out onto a wooden tiled patio with a day bed. There is also a small living area within the room that comes complete with a comfortable sofa and small coffee table.
We were in love with the huge well-equipped bathroom with its range of luxurious toiletries – there were also a few small touches like the signature bath products and candles to set up a refreshing spa and pamper yourself.
We spent most of our time lounging on the daybed or relaxing in the bathtub.
The resort also offers Deluxe Garden View Room, Deluxe Lagoon Access Room, and Beachfront Pool Suite rooms to its guests. The ground floor rooms have direct access to the pool while second to fourth-floor rooms have a private patio that is covered and looks like a nest ( a pretty nest made up of steel you can say).
Regardless of which type you choose, you’d get the following: – Daily replenished tea and coffee, bath salts, shampoo, conditioner, bath gel, shower gel, hand soap, dental kit, shaving kit, cotton buds, cotton pads, shower cap, comb, sanitary bag, sewing kit, and insect repellant, yukata, beach bag and slippers.
Complimentary WiFi is also provided in the rooms and is quite good all around the property.
• • • Dining • • •
The resort has 4 in-house restaurants that cater to fine dining to poolside quick bites.
Reef — the beachfront restaurant offers all-day dining options. The breakfast at Reef is a decadent affair offering a selection of dishes and fresh-baked items to start the day off with. The menu is basically a mix of Continental and Indonesian food. There are plenty of fruits, yogurt, cereals and all that jazz for breakfast with the live station dishing out eggs, waffles or crepes on request. The menu at reef includes pasta, pizza, fresh seafood and healthy salads to name a few for lunch & dinner.
There are two restaurants along the sidewalks of Sanur, Kuu serves traditional Japanese food and Graze serves locally grown coffees, sandwiches, cakes, and pastries.
Tree Bar is a three-storied wooden styled beach house restaurant that offers sweeping views of the ocean as you dine in or sip your drink.
• • • Amenities & Activities • • •
From spending some time in solace at the yoga center or a quick workout session at the fitness center, from a dip in the swimming pool that offers stunning views of the ocean to a relaxing spa, the resort has no shortage of activities.
The resort also hosts cooking classes and romantic picnic lunch on the rooftop garden overlooking the ocean. A tour desk is at your service to help you with your itinerary — by arranging transport and sightseeing tours at an affordable price.
We booked our day trip to Nusa Penida and Sea Walking tour from the resort itself and the price we were quoted at the resort was way cheaper than the kiosk outside the resort.

• • • Location • • •
The location is the USP of the resort. If you want accessibility, then this could the perfect choice. Almost everything is minutes away. One side of the resort has a bustling market scene with quirky little cafes, superstores, and fancy restaurants. While on the other side of the resort, there is a boardwalk that runs along the pristine white beach with kiosks offering water sports activities, funky cafe, shops selling loads of trinkets, and artworks.
Not just that, you can also opt for day trips to most of the places from Sanur. Nusa Penida, Nusa Lembongan & Nusa Ceningan are just 30 minutes via ferry. In fact, there are ferries to Gilli Islands from Sanur.

Maya Sanur Resort & Spa is one of the prettiest resorts we stayed in Bali. What impressed us the most was probably the commendable service and well-thought-out plan while designing the hotel. It is not spread across acres but we never even once felt the resort to be crowded.
We had a wonderful time and loved our stay. Apart from the many activities and amenities, the staff were super awesome and the warm hospitality is hard to ignore. They always greeted us with the biggest smiles on their faces from the day we checked in to the day we checked out. We would really like to thank Yuni from the front desk, she was very helpful in arranging different tours and activities. She was so sweet to suggest to us day trips and helped us plan our trip.
Thank you so much, Yuni for making our stay memorable. We would definitely love to return back.
We hope you find our review of Maya Sanur Resort & Spa, Bali helpful.

Looking at these pictures when it’s -10C here in Moscow is just torturous haha! The resort looks fabulous – a perfect escape from the hustle and bustle of the everyday. Your pictures and descriptions are really inviting. Perhaps next time I’ll stay in Bali a bit longer instead of heading straight to the Gilis!
Doro says
Looks like a dreamy place to stay! Thanks for the great review 🙂 I think it was a wise decision to skip the Gilis, it is much nicer to really explore one island instead of seeing a little bit of different places.

What a delightful looking resort. I quite fancy a dip in that pool or soak in the bath. I haven’t been to Bali, but if I did go, would love to stay somewhere like this.

What a breathtaking property, love the plunge pools by the rooms and it looks magnificent. I am so glad that Ubud has really come up as both a backpacking and luxury travel destination since I was in Bali some 11 years ago. It really impressed me and what it misses out on being away from the beach, it makes up in culture and then luxury like you have mentioned.

The decor is absolutely stunning! I love the look and feel of the beautiful rooms, and that balcony is stunning. Will definitely need to add this to my list of places to stay in Bali – thanks for sharing this find!

This place looks absolutely gorgeous! If only I could go to Bali! These days my interest and faith in travel has gone after my visa to Turkey was rejected and knowing that many countries shun Pakistanis, including Indonesia.
Sigh. But if I could, I’d stay here.
